Honoris Causa Doctorate
Awarded to Metropolitan George of Mount Lebanon
His Eminence
Metropolitan George Khodr of Mount Lebanon was awarded "Honoris Causa" Doctorate
at the St. Sergius Institute of Orthodox Theology-Paris, France, on the 22nd of
June 2007.
Earlier in the morning, he presided over the celebration of
the Divine Liturgy marking the end of the academic year at the Institute. In the
evening, following the office of Vespers, an academic assembly presided by the
dean of the institute Archimandrite Job Getcha, Met. George received "Honoris
Causa" Doctorate.
The "Laudatio" speech was delivered by the dean emeritus protoprosbyter Boris
Bobrinskoy who emphesized met. George's contribution to the theological thought,
to the ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, and to his pastoral and
missionary activities. Recalling Met. George's slogan "The church stays at the
heart of the society even though the society may ignore its heart".
A message of H.E.
Met. Gabriel Salibi of Western Europe was delivered by Mr. Carol Saba. An
Encolpion was presented to him by Fr. Gregoire Salibi. Afterwards, Metropolitan
George gave his lecture entitled "the
nature of Islam", a profound reflection of Met. George' research and quest
during the last half of this century of "Christ sleeping in other religions".
