Theological Preparation by Correspondence
Abstract
This program is destined for those wishing to obtain a good level of
theological preparation—but because of various personal and professional
situations—are unable to study at a full-time basis and to join the
theological seminary of St. John of Damascus at the University of
Balamand, Lebanon.
The
Program
The Program is an extension to the "Theological Preparation by
Correspondence"—as offered by St. Sergius Institute of Orthodox Theology
in Paris, France.
The
Program's objective is to give a systematical formation in biblical and
theological courses helping students building a good level of
theological education corresponding to their personal and ecclesiastic
devotion.
The
Program is managed by the teachers' council headed by Metropolitan
George in coordination with the administration of the "Theological
Preparation by Correspondence" of St. Sergius Institute of Orthodox
Theology in Paris, France.
As a
minimum requirement, every student must present a certificate of
accomplishment of the Lebanese Baccalaureate or its official equivalent.
The
full Program is spread for four years. Upon the successful completion of
each of the first three years the student is granted a certificate of
completion of the first, second and third degrees from St. Sergius'
Institute of Orthodox Theology in Paris, France. As for those students
who successfully accomplish all the exams of the fourth degree, submit
all the papers prescribed for each of the four degrees and have their
results meet the academic requirements, they are granted License of
Theology from St. Sergius Institute of Orthodox Theology in Paris,
France.
Specialized courses and a list of recommended bibliography in each
subject are assigned to the students who study at home, at their own
pace, and have the privilege to contact any of the assigned professors
for help.
Not
all courses and references are presently available in Arabic, a major
translation project is in process and the majority of courses are
currently available in French.
Weekly lectures are offered exclusively for registered students,
attendance is optional for some or all the courses. Those students, who
are unable to attend some or all the lectures, can still complete their
study by correspondence.
